Alright last time I wrote on how the prerelease was awesome and how everyone was excited about the new cards and this is the deck I came up with out of my sealed pool:
Land: (17)
9 x Forests
8 x Mountains
Spells (10)
1 x Might of Old Krosa
1 x Evolution Charm
1 x Search for Tommorow
1 x Chromatic Star
1 x Foriysian Totem
1 x Candles of Leng
1 x Dead/Gone
1 x Assault/ Battery
1 x Pyrohemia
1 x Fury Charm
Creatures (13)
2 x Vitaspore Thalllid
1 x Pendelhaven Elder
1 x Pouncing Wurm
1 x Giant Dustwasp
1 x Spectral Force
2 x Skik Shaman
1 x Flowstone Channeler
1 x Flamecore Elemental
1 x Stingscourger
2 x Essence Warden
And here are my results ( Note: This article was written two weeks after the release some results may have been forgotten also lasts names are not shown for their own benefit) :
Match One: Unknown (U/R Hellieon/Flyers Deck)
G1: The reason I don’t remember his name is due to the fact that his name wasn’t listed on the DCI website. This game was mostly in his favor, I couldn’t find a answer to most of his creatures, also the fact that volcanic hellion hit the board after I hit him a couple of times with my dustwasp which was later chumped blocked for his hellieon and a ton of flyers and two-three drops hurt as well, all I could muster with four lands was two thallids and one essence warden and my dead dustwasp. Game one goes to unknown.
G2: Look at game one except I get mana screwed the whole game and no flyer in hand.
0-2, 0-1
Match Two: Jorge (W/G/U build)
G1: I get my thaillds and my essence wardens out quickly, he gets three mana and plays aven riftwatcher and then I get my spectral force out and he’s at 16 and I’m at 24 he gets a few swings in then I get my shamans out and start swinging away at his life.
G2: don’t’ remember much all I know it was a all aggro assault with shamans, Flamecore and spectral force. Force got two hits in by the Stingscourger bouncer with Thallid haste.
2-0, 1-1
Match 3: Adam (B/G/w thallid rush)
G1: This game was all adam, his earlier thallid defender and then starting to get his big creatures out and I’ve only gotten my shaman and my essence warden, I’ve survived for a couple of turns due to the warden and he overwhelms me. The only thing that helped was Pyrohemia and that also killed me.
G2: This game was a rush to see who gets out who, lucky for me my shamans held out against his defenders by hitting direct damage HA! I shouldn’t laugh though because two shamans versus about 7 thallids shouldn’t be overlooked, that was until I had my warden out, then he put out his only warden of his own out….not cool, I get pyrohemia out and im at 7 with him at 9. he gets his 3/6 treefolk out and then swings with all his thallids and doesn’t take off any counters. I block one shaman and during my turn I swing with my shaman I pay 3 red and its now 4-4, my board is cleared and during stacking damage he takes off his counters for a sap to sac to regenerate his 5/2. In order for me not to lose and still gain some points in this is a draw, I don’t have anything that could help and pay the 4 red for the draw.
G3: I’ve gotten earlier start with my own thallid and warden and it just ends about there. He gets his big thallid defender and basically locks my ground from anymore attacks. I get a few defenders out and he puts out the white fungus(with some help from chronostar for one white, I asked him after he played it, “Was that your only white card in that deck?” his response, “yup” I laughed and knew I was dead) with lots of saps. You can figure out how I lost from there.
0-2-1
Wow so far I’m disappointed with this deck, its really a let down in how badly I made it, so I decide to test a new deck after the flight and I don’t mean to start a new flight, I was flat broke except for five dollars. I’ll post the new deck after this next match up. Don’t worry it will be quick match up.
Match 4: Ronnie ( X)
Ronnie was a no show; I assume he dropped because I had about 5- 6 points while he had 12 points which is 3-0. So I assume that he got his 6 packs anyways which is fine with me.
2-0 Dropped
This puts me at 2-2 for the day and you know I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t get to play in my fourth match but a win is a win. The funniest part about this whole experience is that I only lost one point in my DCI standing and I’m about closer to my 1600 ranking once again (my ranking dropped due to my inexperience in drafting in the past) in limited. Out of forty-two people I placed twenty. I left after the fourth round and didn’t even bother checking my ranking only after two weeks on the DCI website and I laugh that I was placed twentieth out of players that had better decks then me and more experienced. However it is a new set and all. After a few weeks players will get the feeling of what is good and what is god awful in draft. Ah, I almost forgot this is what another deck I would have made (and should have played) if I redid the sealed:
Land:
8x Island
8x Plains
Spells (9)
1 x Rebuff the Wicked
1 x Mana Tithe
1 x Cancel
1 x Reality Acid
1 x Erratic Mutation
1 x Dismal Failure
1 x Chromatic Star
1 x Paradise Plum
1 x Candles of Leng
Creatures (15)
2 x Sinew Sliver
1 x Poultice Sliver
1 x Amrou Seekers
1 x Saltfield Recluse
1 x Aven Riftwatcher
1 x Icartian Crier
1 x Castle Raptors
1 x Sage of Epityr
1 x Dream Stalker
1 x Fathom Seer (Foil)
1 x Tolarian Sentinel
1 x Veiling Oddity
1 x Merfolk Thaumaturgist
1 x Clockwork Hydra
Doesn’t look much but it seems well enough to play and its control heavy, especially since I didn’t notice dream stalker and reality acid, ugh good removal and I didn’t even notice. Enjoy and see ya next time!
