Cave musings 1-Foreshadowing Shadowmoor

Welcome back to the cave, to start things off I'm going to try and write an article each week for Letsplaymtg.com by discussing the new sets coming out, standard tech, what cards that should be tested and broken down, and some standard decks that I played and tested with insight of the forbidden program magic workstation and see what I should look at the metagame and figure out some tech against that, I will post some highlights from my drafts and standard tournamnets, its kinda dark here in the cave so I will put some light in it.

Alright so lets start off by discussing some Shadowmoor spoilers and rumors and my insight on how the set may look. Thanks to Wizards of the Coast, we actually have a card spoiled. The card is Demigod of Revenge and the hybrid mana mechanic from Ravinca is back:

Now looking at this card I think of three things, for one its a black/red flying haste creature for a balanced mana cost and the fact that there isn't many black nor red flyers in the standard scene nor in drafting the Lorwyn block. Second its ability is absolutely ridiculously strong with more then one demigod in one deck. The ability of playing the same creature in a graveyard just by playing just makes me happy and overjoyed. The third is the power and toughness, its not that tough to make it almost a hoser with four toughness which is good and its power is very good for a high cost flyer.

For me, a black/red burn aggro deck is in the works of creating and play testing, however due to the hybrid mana coming back, I wouldn't be surprised if some people try to test this guy in mono-black or mono-red decks. Unfortunately I cannot say that this set is very good due to one card, even if Wizards did gives us some artwork to look at in the booster they spoiled on the magic the gathering site, most of the creatures in the pack were hybrid creatures with guildpact clans, and for a green/red player like myself I'm hoping for some nice new green/red duals.

A rumor popped up,technically confirmed from Wizards, that there will be two cards reprinted from Future sight into Shadowmoor, a rumor of poison running around(god I hope so *evil laugh*), but it's in the air to what cards are going to be in there. Boldwyr Intimidator was the one that was reprinted for Morningtide, a card I wish wasn't but it's ok now with the support, but never used. This caveman was hoping for scab-clan maulers to come back but one can wish can't he. We won't know until we do some number crunching and look at some of the other cards.

As of now,I'll say I'm really looking forward to the new set, with one card spoiled so far the set looks interesting,maybe there is going to be a graveyard theme, classes and clans that work together, the goblins and the treefolk for instance,but for now, it's only a matter of time until the shadow's finally reveal themselves.So until next time I'll see you all next time in the cave.
